SuperHomes Ireland to feature on RTE Prime Time
Our Retrofit Advisor, David Flannery was out on film location last week with RTE One Prime Time who will be featuring two homeowners who are currently upgrading their home to an A BER Rating thanks to Deep Retrofit funding from Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland and co funded by Electric Ireland and the European Unions Horizon 2020 programme
Joanne and Pat Clarke, homeowners from Toomervara, Co. Tipperary came to us in October 2018. They were fortunate to be selected for the 2019 SEAI Deep Retrofit programme and work got underway in April, in the capable hands of contractors, Sola Energy. Their 1960’s detached bungalow had a building energy rating of F.
Following a home survey, Superhomes concluded that the following measures were needed to meet the minimum A3 BER. Their upgrade includes:
- Air source heat pump as the primary heating system
- Airtightness level brought to less than 5 air changes-per-hour to reduce draughts
- Advanced demand-controlled ventilation for fresh and healthy indoor air quality
- Attic Insulation
- External wall insulation
- Double glazed windows to achieve a U-Value of 1.2w/m2k
- Underfloor heating
- High Efficiency Stove
- 2kw Solar PV System (8 panel) on the south facing façade
When all upgrades are complete, their home will reach an A3 BER , ensuring it has healthy indoor air quality and consistently warm living spaces 24 hours a day. They were spending an average of €3300 pa on electricity and oil and they can expect a reduction of 50-70% on their energy bills post retrofit. This deep retrofit has removed all fossil fuels from the home and is part of Ireland’s transition to a low carbon future.
